Aalto – my latest software synth addiction

Hello all.  This post comes from the computer music side of Pancycle not the instrument crafting and tuning (at least not the physical kind) side.

This is an update to this post which includes a preset for  Aalto that I made.  Apparently the earlier version wasn’t working when copied and pasted from here and Randy at Madrona magically fixed it and now it seems to work.  Thank you Randy!

Here I can update to the story behind this.   I wrote very little earlier as I was on  a bus and getting sick as hell trying to type.

What I wanted to say is that I am a fan of what I consider to be artisan programers of digital audio software and plugins and one that took me too long to discover is Madrona Labs.  I have begun using and learning their amazing Aalto synth and I am blown away by not only the sound and technical possibilities but also the aesthetic and flavor of the whole thing.  If you are a computer music maker this synth is wonderful plugin to have.  It is a joy to work with and using it one can really feel the sensibility, depth of knowledge, passion and inspiration of those who designed it.

On a train today as my family and I were on our way to Tours in France I spent some time patching and turning knobs and I came up with something I wanted to share.  We were passing the town of St. Patrice as I was saving hence the name.

I actually read the manual @Madronalabs!  This is one of my initial patches developed from the default preset as my starting place.  I am so happy to be using this synth yet the sound is so melancholy…

Copy everything from the Left bracket to the right bracket and “paste from clipboard” in the Alto preset menu
